On December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day the United States declared war on Japan. On December 11, 1941, Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. The United States fought for four long years. Then on May 7, 1945, Germany formally surrendered. Finally on Septmeber 2, 1945, Japan surrendered. Although the war was declared over, the effects of the war would last for generations to come.
